Print Screen ScreenShot

Print Screen is a function key usually available on the upper `right` side of the keyboard. It can be combined with anothe key and requires a simultanous action on the function (Fn) key.

You can also start this feature with the contextual menu. `Right` click on KneaverTray icon and select Screenshot. In this case be careful that the active window is not changed.

The screenshot is done on the active window and typically saved in PNG format. It is very fast, space efficient and very accurate. It is a good solution for keeping track of actions done in software.

You can alternate screen shots and comments to build at once a guide for using features or documenting business process on computers.

A sound like a shutter noise will be produce to confirm the screenshot is done. You can repeat rapidly screenshots just by pressing screen shot again.

If you want to capture animated effects prefer Screen recording.

If you want to keep text, because text is saved as graphic and not as text it is not as reusable as the Kneaver paper clip icon in the browser. However if the page is heavily graphic it is a good trade-off. You can also do a screen shot and copy paste the fragments into the comment box.

Comment

Click straight on the KneaverTray icon on the lower `right` side of the screen. You can also do a `right` click and choose comment.

Type here you remarks, notes, thoughts, comments as they come. They will stored and inserted in the timeline between images and screenshots. It will be easy in a subsequent time to merge and edit them. Notes are saved every 2 seconds so this is stress free.

To start a new comment when the windows is already active use the “Save & New” button, to close the window use “Save & Close”.

The comment box can be expanded to support full HTML editing and spell checking. See using FCKEditor with KneaverTray.

There is no predefined function key for this feature but one can be defined in the settings.

Bookmark

Bookmark function helps to maintain a uniform bookmark system across browser. Also it keeps not only the address of the page but the page itself, as it is, and all the necessary resources (image, stylesheet and scripts) and because this is not always sufficient a screen shot of the page as is. Using thi feature you are now certain you will be able to return to the page and also keep it as it is.

You cannot start this feature outside from the browser.

Bookmarks are saved as mhtml files. Mime Multipart html files. This is a compact format where pages, images and styles are saved together. It’s a proposed standard (see http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2557)

This feature is only available on Internet Explorer 6 and above. It will also be available on other browser.

F8 Scan

Scanning takes about 50 seconds.

The scan icon will appear in the Tray the lower `right` rectangle of the screen.

You can also start this feature with the contextual menu. `Right` click on KneaverTray icon and select Scan.

The picture is automatically saved on completion. There is no progress bar to reduce the disturbance. You can scan while working on other tasks.

F9 Recording

The record icon will appear in the Tray the lower `right` rectangle of the screen.

You can also start this feature with the contextual menu. `Right` click on KneaverTray icon and select Record.

Recording stops after a silence of 5 seconds. You can also stop it by clicking on the microphone icon. There is no limit for recording. It can be one hour long. It is very compact. About 1 mo per minute, 60 mo per hour. The recording is saved regularly.

The recording is saved in MP3 format. MP3 format can used in many devices like computers, MP3 players, cell phones, web pages,

Record

Video record operates similarly to simple sound recording.

The record icon will appear in the Tray the lower `right` rectangle of the screen.

You can also start this feature with the contextual menu. `Right` click on KneaverTray icon and select Record.

You should stop the recoding by clicking on the recording icon. There is no limit for recording. It can be one hour long. It is very compact. About 5 mo per minute, 60 mo per hour. The movie is saved regularly.

The recording is saved in WMV format. WMV is windows media video format. It can used in variety of devices like computers, web pages, It ane played by flash and windows media player for example. Video recording is a great feature for capturing tacit knowledge.

Shift Print Screen Screen Record

Video record operates similarly to video recording.

After pressing the key or selecting the menu the software will record the complete screen and your comments in the microphone.

Press on the recording icon to stop.

Settings Use contextual menu and select Settings. This will present a dialog to enable you to change interactively the settings. Settings will be reflected when you validate the dialog.
Help Use contextual menu and select Help. This will present a help dialog where both features and methology willl be explained. This document is also part of this help.
Exit To Exit KneaverTray use the contextual menu (`Right` Click) on the KneaverTray icon on the lower `right` side of the screen. There will be no loss of data. It is not very useful unless you want to install a new release of KneaverTray.

Remarks:

  • Scanning, Recording, Screenshots and comments can be freely combined. Two recording features can’t take place in the same time. The system will prevent incompatible operations.
